Ceiling Fan Noise

Ceiling fan noise can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint but in most cases in just a few steps you can find and eliminate the noise. New fans often produce a humming noise, which in most cases can be resolved by running the fan, when the fan is running the bearings will automatically be lubricated. Try running the fan for 12-24 hrs, this should help to thoroughly lubricate the bearings and stop the humming noise.

Loose parts such as blades or light fixtures can also be the source ceiling fan noise. Tightening the screws on the blades or light shades is a good place to start when trying to eliminate the fan noise. If the noise continues try inserting a small piece of rubber or similar material between the blades/light shade and the screw. This will absorb the noise and cause a tighter fit holding the parts securely in place. If the noise persists you can always check with your manufacturer for further information.

To help eliminate ceiling fan noise and to prevent excess ware on the motor, it is recommended that you follow up monthly with tightening of all visible screws and bolts and visually inspecting your ceiling fan for any signs of ware.
