The actual source of  noise from your ceiling fan can sometimes prove elusive. It  may come from the fan parts themselves or may come from one of the electrical accessories, such as a dimmer switch. Feed back from the switch may cause a slight humming noise which can be very annoying.

To better focus in on the source of the noise, eliminate the dimmer switch by temporarily disconnecting it. Operate the fan manually using the pull chain and observe if the noise is eliminated. If you’ve determined the source of the noise is the dimmer switch make sure all electrical wiring is done properly and wires are grounded. Also make sure the dimmer switch is compatible with the style and make of fan.

If the noise persists consult the manufacturer or the representatives at the place of purchase. Many ceiling fan manufacturers offer a limited lifetime warranty so in most cases your problem will be remedied with little inconvenience.
