Ceiling Fan Switch
Installing a ceiling fan switch or dimmer switch is a great way to control the lighting and achieve the desired mood for your room. Rooms such as entertainment or media rooms where you gather friends and family to watch movies, are ideal rooms for a ceiling fan switch, simply lower the lighting to enhance the picture and atmosphere. Dimming the ceiling fan lights in the dinning room while entertaining guests can provide a warm comfortable atmosphere, should the mood change to a game of poker simply turn the ceiling fan switch to give the room bright lights a charge of energy.
There are many styles of ceiling fan switches to choose from. Here are some basic types:
Glider: the dimmer control slides up and down to control the lighting.
Rotary Knob: a round dial that you turn clockwise and counter clockwise to adjust the lighting.
Push-Button: programmable buttons allow you to pre-set the lighting to a specified setting.
Hand Held Remote Control: allows you to conveniently change the lighting any where in the room.
Not only are dimmer switches convenient but they also increase energy efficiency. Approximately 120 times a second is how often a dimmer switch turns a light on and off, fast enough that our eyes just see a steady dim light. So the longer the light stays in the off position the less electricity the bulb uses, it also produces less heat thereby increasing the life of the bulb. Some dimmer switches are not compatible with energy efficient lights, such as energy star rated lights. Please check your ceiling fan light kit and the dimmer switch to ensure they are compatible.
